Over the past few years the way I look at food has changed. Not only are the choices I make more healthy (most of the time) but I also think about what I put on my plate at home, what I order in restaurants, and the implications of these choices.

Khao & Bao, previously Bao Wow, is a sister restaurant of the popular Sticks n Broth also located on Balwin Street and the newly opened Bangkok Joes – that I am yet to venture to, but is very much top of my list.
A little over a week ago I was pretty much devastated as a colleague of mine returned to work with the terrible news that Bao Wow had closed down and a quick search on Twitter confirmed this closure. As my favourite lunchtime destination Bao Wow delivered delicious asian flavours for really reasonable prices.
Recently I have been loving the Wriggle app and over the past few months it has helped me to discover some great local restaurants notably Spoke and Stringer (definitely top 3 restaurant in Bristol) and Club Haus which is a great spot for lunch.
I love Asian food, so when I spotted Tuk Tuck passing through to town after work I definitely wanted to give it a try. Luckily not long after it popped up on my Wriggle account which gave me a great excuse to give it a try. With the great offer of any 2 mains, 2 miso and edamame beans for £11 it was perfect for a weeknight meal.
My office is full of some wonderful bakers and as it seems to be someone’s birthday every day of the week I get to sample some excellent cakes.
I was charged with making a dessert for my mum’s birthday lunch so when my lovely colleague Katka made this cake recently I knew it was the one. It’s moist, beautiful and utterly delicious – as my family later agreed. What’s more it was both a birthday cake yet that little bit more, taking it into more of the dessert territory. A little goes a long way with this cake as it is quite rich but I definitely recommend making this.
